Active Ingredients:

Dextrose – Efficiently replaces blood glucose levels to correct hypoglycemia and stimulate electrolyte and water assimilation.

Glycine – Promotes intestinal absorption of water and sodium and helps spare protein utilization for energy purposes.

Sodium Acetate – Rapidly metabolized to provide an immediate energy source plus adequate bicarbonate levels to correct acidosis without inhibiting milk clottting.

Potassium Chloride – Restores normal intracellular potassium levels to correct hypokalemia.

Sodium Chloride – Restores sodium and is a major factor in the assimilation of water to effectively correct dehydration.

Sodium Citrate – Enhances the absorption of electrolytes and water.

Each Liter of solution contains:

Potassium – 30 mEq
Sodium – 85 mEq
Acetate – 60 mEq
Chloride – 45 mEq
Citrate – 10 mEq
Glycine – 12 mM
Glucose – 368 mM
Total Osmolarity – 614 mM
Total Metabolizable Energy – 296 Kcal

Administration: Hydra-lyte readily dissolves in water and is easily absorbed. Prepare solution by dissolving the contents of both compartments of the package in two quarts of warm water. Prepare the solution just prior touse and administer with an esophageal probe, nursing bottle or pail. Milk or milk replacer should be discontinued for the first two days of therapy.

Dosage: Administer two quarts of Hydra-Lyte solution to each calf or foal twice daily for the first two days. Important: milk or milk replacer should not be used during this period. On the third and fourth day, administer one quart Hydra-Lyte solution mixed with either one quart milk or milk replacer to each calf or foal two times each day. Lambs will require about one-fourth of the above dosage.

Most treated animals can be returned to normal feeding on the fifth day, but treatment can be continued on the fifth through seventh day.

Note: In cases of severe dehydration or large neonatal animals, two quarts of Hydra-Lyte solution should be administered to each calf or foal four times each day for the first two days. One fourth this dosage is required for lambs. Use the same dosage regimen for the third and fourth days as recommended above.
